I don't know what you guys hear in NZ but this is some crazy shit. I am usually supportive of the plight of the Muslim in Australia, but this really has me , quite frankly disgusted. Obviously this doesn't speak the views of every Muslim in Australia. I understand that
You may claim that it is sensationalised properganda type stirring against the Islamic community, but I feel the other way, this would be put down shamelessly if it were a regular teacher or a Christian leader. After the uproar over the Popes dumb arse speach afew weeks back I don't personally have a problem with me being pissed off that this is acceptable for a very senior religious leader.
The full sermon is here:
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/st ... 01,00.html
Quote:
But in the event of adultery, the responsibility falls 90 per cent of the time with women. Why? Because the woman possesses the weapon of seduction. She is the one who takes her clothes off, cuts them short, acts flirtatious, puts on make-up and powder, and goes on the streets dallying. She is the one wearing a short dress, lifting it up, lowering it down, then a look, then a smile, then a word, then a greeting, then a chat, then a date, then a meeting, then a crime, then Long Bay Jail, then comes a merciless judge who gives you 65years.
But the whole disaster, who started it? The Al-Rafihi scholar says in one of his literary works, he says: If I come across a crime of rape - kidnap and violation of honour - I would discipline the man and teach him a lesson in morals, and I would order the woman be arrested and jailed for life.
Why, Rafihi? He says, because if she hadn't left the meat uncovered, the cat wouldn't have snatched it. If you take a kilo of meat, and you don't put it in the fridge, or in the pot, or in the kitchen, but you put in on a plate and placed it outside in the yard. Then you have a fight with the neighbour because his cats ate the meat. Then (inaudible). Right or not?
If one puts uncovered meat out in the street, or on the footpath, or in the garden, or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, then the cats come and eat it, is it the fault of the cat or the uncovered meat? The uncovered meat is the problem! If it was covered the cat wouldn't have. It would have circled around it and circled around it, then given up and gone.
If she was in her room, in her house, wearing her hijab, being chaste, the disasters wouldn't have happened. The woman possesses the weapon of seduction and temptation. That's why Satan says about the woman, "You are half a soldier. You are my messenger to achieve my needs. You are the last weapon I would use to smash the head of the finest of men. There are a few men that I use a lot of things with, but they never heed me. But you? Oh, you are my best weapon."
Discuss???
EDIT: The reference to 65 years is directed at the Australian Courts where a bunch of Australian/Lebonese youths were charged with long jail terms for a gang rape of a girl afew years back.Thats one of the reasons people are so fucking mad about this, he (the Mufti)is suggesting that it was her fault she was repeatedly gangraped by these young men.

What's to be said. Fuckwits are fuckwits are fuckwits, no matter what their creed. Although having a religion behind them gives them more surety in their fuckwit-ism.

Wouldn't uncovered meat be a man walking around with his pants and undies around his ankles?

Yeah, between the pope, this guy (and others) we'll end up with people either side of THEIR religious devide to start killing each other and we will be left standing in the middle (if we aint killed in the process). This Mufti said to news cameras when asked if he would resign "When we cleanse the world of the white house' Thats one thing that freaks me out about all this, these guys (pope/mufti) are supposed to be enlightened, the top tier of their chosen faith and yet they don't seem to have a braincell between them....Religion should stay the fuck away from politics....that includes you Destiny Church!
As my favorite author Frank Herbert wrote: "When religion and politics ride in the same cart, the whirlwind follows"

Doesn't that already happpen... hasn't that been happening for 1000s of years.... I don't blame religion completely, although there are many holywars that have been fought, like race, religion breeds hate amongst differences, most of us here think that is outragously dumb... I blame natural instinct for alot of this. It is in our 'nature' to hate, or 'fear' differences, or things we don't understand. If you are an extremist on any one view, you will never ever see the light shining from the other side of an argument, hence why these religous leaders say and do outrageous things, out of fear, which leads to hate, becasue they don't understand. They can't see beyond their own belief. Now one way to deal with this would be to kill all the leaders... but that would probably spawn a new set of problems .... Also if you took all leaders or extremist view points away, you wouldn't have a voice keeping everything honest, and you would end up with a world ledd by republicans lol...... Don Brash's buddies fuck that....

I never ignored it ya bastard at the moment, seeing as it is happening in the country I am in I could have been in a position to do something about it (but I am leaving). The thing is with religious types in general the more you react to their shit the more they preach/do it and it inflames the situation.
How many times have I stood up for immagrants (usual non-white ones) or Muslims or Maoris or Aboriginies in arguements in this country? To fucking many times. I have been to rallys for workers rights here etc.
Have you gone to any rallys or signed anything to help a cause you believe in in USA? I know you have argued the point against co-workers. You are at the root of half the problem where you are mate, fucking DC.....at least you don't live in the Bilble Belt lol

Calm down, I used words without thinking... I didn't mean you didn't get involved or what ever, or that you actually ignore shit. I meant there has been hype about religion lately, and you have reacted to it recently. If it hadn't drawn your attention, then you wouldn't have reacted.... that is what I kind of meant.. I hope that clears that up.
I do ignore shit, (I hardly watch any news, especially american news) its just the way i cope with things... if I am ignorrant of things that would otherwise bother me, then I don't get depressed about such stuff. Besides, what news can you trust.... fuck all in my opinion. It doesn't matter where it comes from, it is biased from whatever stand point, so where is the truth? I don't have the time to go researching many issues, so I simply stay away from them. Call me shallow..... I don't give a fuck.....
In regards to supporting causes by protesting.... in general they are poorly organised and not very effective.... I don't see the point.. .again call me shallow... I don't give a fuck.....
Hopefully my research or science knowledge will someday make a change, even if it is just by educating others in my field, and even that seems far fetched at times to me. That is the only place where I can see myself making a difference, not by standing with a sign or marching and chanting with no one really listening.

I wasn't/aren't mad at you, I was just stating my case
Marches/rallys are hit and miss I reckon, they depend on mobilizing a largely apathetic population (if dealing with popular movements/ideas, if we are talking extremes, they are always louder as they are extremely devoted and/or motivated by their ideals) and they may also inspire the mob mentality where you may be swept up in things you don't fully agree on, but I find marching, chanting does make a difference personally (this is just my opinion)
a) It helps bring together like minded people strengthening their resolve, and making them know they are not alone in a particular mindset.
b) It lets your voice be heard (in a way).It removes some dispair in feeling that you yourself cannot act or help to change anything in such a large community/world - in a more selfish way I guess it removes some sense of guilt that one may feel about the mistreatment of people/enviroment/animals whatever.
c)When the demons from hell start pouring though the dimentional gate you can say "I told you so!"
In response on bullshit news reports I fully agree with you, everything is always bias, me writing this is biased as I am sure you know.
I do watch it to be depressed and angry I guess, its better (imo) than being one of those steers who live in a state of numbness, only expressing themselves when told to such as cheering the politians, popes, etc. I would never cheer a poli, not even one I voted for, just as I would never swear fealty to a church let alone follow the teachings of someone who says if my mother or sister wears something at all revealing or wears makeup then she is asking to be raped.
edit:Also I should say that IMO marches can be misleading in that if a particular organisation tells its members to go (instead out of personal conviction or informed knowledge) it can be misleading to onlookers/head counters.
