Today at the Student General Meeting, students passed the following motions:
1. That by popular student mandate, University grounds are declared a prohibition free zone.
2. That OUSA condones the public smoking of cannabis as protest against cannabis prohibition.
3. That OUSA will financially and otherwise support any student facing prosecution for cannabis.
4. (not cannabis related) - That OUSA deplores unneccesary waste of food, and petitions the Link foodcourt eateries to discount, or give away excess food rather than to throw it out.

Kick arse!
Lets just hope major dealers don't sign up as students while they are being prosecuted for supplying and firearms charges Ya gotta be careful about wording this kinda shit, but for the average student this is fucking choice!
As for the food thats damn right, but it fucks with the buisness, as why would you pay for your food when you can wait afew hours and get some for free? Once again choice for the avarege student!

Well personally I think what OUSA has done is pretty stupid. I can only see them getting in the crap themselves, offering monetry support for stupid kids that get caught, is dumb, and they are only gonna end up shooting themselves in the foot. If I was a non-smoking student at Otago, I would be pissed off that part of MY student association fee was going to go towards some cause that supported illegal behaviour. Now to some of you what I have written is gonna come across as a little left, but fuck it, students already have to pay fuck loads in fees. Now this is where I really see the stupidity in this...... How many of you are smokers? Those that raised your hands, how many of you have been stupid enough to get caught? bugger all I would imagine. Right, yes, there will be the occasional person that gets caught with a joint.... or even a tiny, and the consequences are low, so really what support would you need from some student association.... In my opinion, you done something stupid, deal with the consequences (the stupidity is the getting caught buzz I am talking about). Pay your small fine and get over it. First offense, don't go on your record for something small. If ytou are a second time getting caught, you are fucking stupid and deserve to get caught. Now the other scenario I am thinking about is big time pot head carrying an ounze, or even better a pocket full of tinies for sale.... So the way things read in the new motions, OUSA are gonna support this guy/gal if he/she is a student, it states any student..... Fuck this shit.... dealer... no way should someone like that be supported. So really, there is no need for OUSA to support anyone that smokes. As for stating that the university grounds are declared prohibition free.... I would like to see them trying to enforce that... I think the men in blue would win that battle. And condoning public smoking is like telling students that they should, I think this is wrong, and could turn into a peer pressure thing, where you get people that don't really wanna go and smoke in public doing so because they feel cool and then getting in the shit for their actions.
Sounds like all the hippies go to Otago now lol....
The food thing is only petitioned, so I reckon there wont be a change on the business grounds... they can simply say the food is "unsanitry" and therefore for not safe for consumption, if it has been sitting on their shelf for a certain length of time. Personally I wouldn't wanna eat a mince and cheese pie that has been in the warmer all afternoon, although I guess I would chance food poisoning if I was that desperate????
Thats my two cents.

http://www.moh.govt.nz/moh.nsf/0/0B3754 ... AE00754A35
but really, who would really want to grow it...... and go to the lengths to get the documentation sorted????? not many, if any (go scribe you nana)
side note, last week I think it was, I found out that there is a lab here doing work with drug plants..... yeap, Sativa, poppies and the someone that told me said cocoa plants too.... they are growing in a secret greenhouse right here on this campus. They are looking for biological means to distroy the plants... eg looking for a strain of plant pathogen that would infect and kill these plants. Now this is a really stupid approach if you ask me...... but yeah I won't go into the details why I think it is dumb unless people are interested.

I can see where this will lead, thousands of starving Central and South Americans/Afgans because the pathogen somehow spread to their crops. I'm no science guy but this sounds like a really stupid idea.

well even science guy thinks its a stupid idea pathogens spreading to other food crops probably wouldn't be an issue, but you never know I guess. Lots of examples of using a type of organism to control another but detrimental unforseen shinanagins to run along side... They are testing existing pathogens on these drug crops, and alot of the food crops grown in the areas "wankerpune" talks of are older cultivars taht have been breed for natural pest resistence (this is where all the hippy organic farmers should source their germplasm)... the problem I see is that if you start messing with these drug crops in places of origin, you have the chance of wiping out original germplasm, thus yet another species is now extinct.... sure people dodn't care for plants like they do for animals.... but flora are also susceptible to extinction just like fauna..... now if cocoa was extinct... yeap no cocaine, but also no chocolate ... fuck that lol

No immediate worries in that area, as Cocaine comes from the Coca plant (after which Coca Cola is also named), and Chocolate comes from the Cocoa plant - what a difference one small letter makes!
If someone's trying to eliminate certain drugs, then I reckon trying to wipe out their source is kinda the wrong way around to do things. Aside from the fact that those university scientists don't seem to be too fussed about releasing diseases into other people's countries and continents in order to take care of their own country's problems, if there's still a demand for any kind of product, be it drugs or anything else, then there will also be suppliers who will be prepared to do whatever it takes to feed that market - as far as Cannabis Sativa goes, you could see an boom in "indoor sun-lamp hydroponic tomato"-style set-ups (ummm... apparently...) which may also work as a way of growing other plants from which drugs are derived.
As far as dealing with the reasons why people use recreational drugs in the first place... the fact that people find them enjoyable or a release would probably be the main factors. I've heard (from a documentary on TV...) that a cocaine "vaccine" has been developed, where once someone has been "immunised", no matter how much cocaine they consume, it has no effect on them - that's certainly a very serious and kinda scary way of going about things... hopefully the disease-testing scientists keep away from this area!!!

Yes, I had a look at the all-knowing Wikipedia while I was typing my last post, and saw that Cocoa actually comes from the Cacao plant, but I thought that would just be one more detail I'd have to tack onto my post (and I hoped no-one else would know )... So you get a gold star and go to the top of the class Rob! (don't worry about me... I'll be alright... )

well, I have learnt something today... cocoa and cocaine, different plant.... live and you learn all good...... hmmmm ok, so wipe out sativa and yeah you wipe out THC..... but what about all those hemp ropes..... and nandors hemp suit ......
Quote: as far as Cannabis Sativa goes, you could see an boom in "indoor sun-lamp hydroponic tomato"-style set-ups (ummm... apparently...) which may also work as a way of growing other plants from which drugs are derived. well realistically, replacing the thousands of acres/hectares of land that is sown with illegal sativa or coca in central in central and south america with expensive green houses and expensive hydroponic systems wouldn't work. The cost involved in setting up is huge in itself, and then you need to think about the energy costs of keeping it going. Electric and gas energy is rather expensive in this area of the world, and is increasin in price all the time.... so I really don't see your suggestion as a reality.
Quote: hopefully the disease-testing scientists keep away from this area!!! well if a vaccine is already available, then these "disease-testing scientists don't need to expend their energy in this area..... THERE IS ALREADY A VACCINE!!!!! (yes I yelled that).
I think the main purpose of this pathogen testing on these plants, is so the Government can say to the public, "hey we have scientists (US dept of Agriculture scientists, not Universioty scientists) doing research to eliminate this problem we have". The Gov don't really want to change what is happening, remember, America needs central and south america, and in many of these areas, illegal drug money coming in from the USA bolsters their economies..... without the drug money there would be alot of people that are alot less well off, and desparate in many situations. America needs corruption.... at every level lol..... its called democracy aint it
